Aquator - Simulation of Water Resource Systems

Some of the components available in Aquator to build models, undertake analysis, import and export information are listed below.

Model building components

Abstraction icon Abstraction
(An Abstraction allows water to be taken from a river to supply)

Bi-directional link icon Bi-directional link
(A Bi-Directional Link allows two way flow on the supply system)

Blender icon Blender
(A Blender mixes water in supply to meet minimum quality standards)

Bulk supply icon Bulk supply
(This component allows transfer of water to supply from outside the model)

Catchment icon Catchment
(A Catchment marks the start of one branch of the river network and adds water on daily basis to the river network at that point)

Combiner icon Combiner
(Converts a bi-directional flow into an inflow and outflow - used with the Bi-directional link component)

Confluence icon Confluence
(A Confluence combines two input river reaches into a single output river reach)

Constraint holder icon Constraint holder
(Allows licences and other constraints to be placed in the supply network)

Demand Centre icon Demand Centre
(A Demand Centre acts as a source of demand such as city, town or region)

Discharge icon Discharge
(A Discharge allows water to be added to the river system)

Diversion icon Diversion
(A Diversion has a single river reach as input with two river outputs; main and diverted)

Gauging station icon Gauging station
(A Gauging Station allows modelled flow to be compared with the measured flow and can act as a prescribed flow site on the river network)

Groundwater icon Groundwater
(This component is a simple representation of a groundwater source)

Hydro-Generator icon Hydro-Generator
(As water passes through a Hydro-Generator, electricity and hence income are generated)

Join icon Join
(A Join enables two branches of the supply network to be connected together)

Link icon Link
(A Link connects joins together supply type connector. It represents pipelines, aqueducts and channels used in the supply distribution network)

Pump Station icon Pump Station
(A Pump Station moves water within the supply system or into the river network)

Reach icon Reach
(This component is a simple representation of a river reach that allows flows to be lagged and losses applied)

Reservoir icon Reservoir
(A Reservoir provides storage for water either in the river network or in the supply system)

River regulator icon River regulator
(A River Regulator automatic release to augment river flow)

Service Reservoir icon Service Reservoir
(A Service Reservoir is located in the supply system only and has no significant storage over a daily time step)

Split icon Split
(A Split enables the supply network to branch into two directions in a downstream direction)

Termination icon Termination
(A Termination component is required as the last component at the downstream end of a river reach to account for water leaving the system in the water balance calculations)

Water Treatment Works icon Water Treatment Works
(A Water Treatment Works is located in the supply system and supports Process Water losses and Clear Water Returns)

Constraints

Annual licence icon Abstraction
(An Annual Licence restricts the supply from a source to an annual max quantity)

Annual yield icon Annual yield
(An Annual Yield restricts the supply from a source to an annual max quantity)

Availability constraint icon Availability constraint
(This constraint enables/disables a source on a day by day basis)

Daily licence icon Daily licence
(A Daily Licence restricts the supply from a source to a daily maximum quantity)

Period licence icon Period licence
(This is a flexible period licence from one month to many years)

Seasonal licence icon Seasonal licence
(This licence is enforced only between specific dates within any twelve month period)

Rolling licence icon Rolling licence
(This licence applies over a rolling period of 18 or more months)

Groups

Abstraction Group icon Abstraction Group
(An Abstraction Group allows constraints to be attached to more than one Component. For example it is possible to include two or more Groundwater Components into an Abstraction Group and attach an Annual Licence constraint to the Group)

Demand Saving Group icon Demand Saving Group
(A Demand Saving Group Group allows different regions of a single model to trigger and impose demand saving at times of water shortage)

Reservoir Group icon Reservoir Group
(A Reservoir Group includes features of Abstraction group plus the ability to group reservoirs to allow their combined storage to be used in resource allocation)

Annotations

Line icon Line
(A Line can be drawn with user specified attributes, including the option of an arrowhead. Length and direction can also be changed)

Picture icon Picture
(Allows pictures to be placed on the schematic)

Shape icon Shape
(A Shape can be drawn with user specified attributes of fill and border colour and style. Shapes can be rectangular or elliptical)

Text icon Text
(Text can be written with user specified attributes, including font style, colour and size. The text may also be placed in a rectangular, coloured area with optional border)

Analysis

Deployable output – English & Welsh method icon Deployable output – English & Welsh method
(This determines the yield or deployable output of a water resources system using UK methodology)

Deployable output – Scottish method icon Deployable output – Scottish method
(This determines the yield or deployable output of a water resources system using Scottish methodology (Scotish Water, SEPA (Scottish Environment Protection Agency)

River flow analysis icon River flow analysis
(Applies flow duration analysis and/or low low frequency analysis to sequences of river flows both recorded and modelled)

Risk analysis icon Risk analysis
(Calculates the risk of reservoir storage being below a certain level on any day in the year ahead and the risk of each level of demand restriction lasting a number of days in the year ahead)

Reporting

Excel icon Excel
(This reporter creates a user defined report in Microsoft® Excel©)

Text icon Text
(This reporter creates a user defined report in plain text format)

Word icon Word
(This reporter creates a user defined report in Microsoft® Word©)
